Hello, I’m Kristyna, the heart behind The Honeycake.

I was born in the Czech Republic, in the town of Benešov, just outside Prague. My passion for baking began in my grandmother’s kitchen, where I spent countless childhood afternoons helping her create (and of course, tasting) her sweet masterpieces. Those moments not only filled our home with warmth but also planted the seeds of a lifelong love for baking.

In 2012, I moved to Edmonton, Alberta, to join my husband and begin a new chapter. As I considered what work I wanted to pursue, I kept coming back to the memories of my grandmother’s honey cake, a dessert so beloved in my homeland yet impossible to find here. I knew I wanted to share that tradition with my new community.

With the support of my husband, we built a licensed commercial bakery, and I spent over a year perfecting the recipe from my childhood until it was just right. We first introduced our honey cake at local farmers’ markets, where it quickly became a customer favourite. Over time, we’ve been blessed with a loyal community who continues to celebrate life’s sweetest moments with our cakes.

Our journey has been filled with hard work, joy, and gratitude. One highlight was receiving an award from the Alberta Farmers’ Market Association, a proud recognition of the love and care we put into every cake.

Today, The Honeycake remains rooted in the same values it started with: quality, tradition, and heartfelt service. Every cake is made with love, and every slice is a piece of my story and now, yours too.
